(a) Giorgio Armani-Samsung
For the first time, Giorgio Armani’s signature elegance and simplicity is applied to mobile phone design. A large 2.6-inch QVGA TFT LCD screen maximizes the user’s visual experience and optimizes the full touch-screen user interface (UI). Along with the outer appearance of the phone, the graphical user interface (GUI) and audio user interface (AUI) also reflect Giorgio Armani’s modern simplicity. By adapting a haptical UI, users can feel an immediate mild vibration when they touch icons on the display. Being the size of a credit card and a mere 9.9 mm in thickness, the Giorgio Armani-Samsung Phone fits sensuosly into a user’s palm.
Despite its compactness, the phone is loaded with the latest powerful multi-media features. It is equipped with a 3-megapixel camera, a music player supporting various types of music formats and a full internet browser. Furthermore, the Giorgio Armani-Samsung Mobile offers a microSD type external memory slot and comes with a Bluetooth stereo headset. A specially designed Giorgio Armani leather carrying case is also included for protection.
(b) Palm 3G Treo 500v
Palm 3G Treo 500v smartphone combines multiples forms of communication and multimedia capabalities with high speed 3G/UMTS mobile internet access, allowing users access to popular websites such as MySpace, You Tube and eBay whilst on the move.
The Palm Treo 500v smartphone runs on a Windows Mobile 6 standard platform and has a full keyboard, large screen, video streaming capability and a comprehensive multi-messaging functionality covering Instant Messaging, SMS, email and phone and personal information management software in a new design. The compact form factor is available in two colours: glacier white and charcoal grey.
With the Palm Treo 500v smartphone customers can also manage documents using mobile versions of familiar Microsoft applications like Outlook, Office, and Windows Live for Windows Mobile. In addition users can share the Treo 500v smartphone’s data access with a laptop, so they can stay connected anywhere within wireless coverage.
3G HSDPA Data Transmission Modules
TDC announced the availability of two new compact High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) modules, offering faster transmission of data with speeds up to 3.6M/bits per second. They provide high bandwith data communication services such as broadbrand internet, email access, and video and music streaming on portable devices.
The Siemens HC15 and HC25 from TDC allow data to be transmitted and received at up to three times the speed of ISDN. Both modules support voice, fax, SMS and Circuit Switched Data (CSD) enabling them to be used as a modem for PDAs, laptops and other devices via infrared ports or data cables.
The HC15 is a single band 3G device supporting 2100MHz and dual band operation on 900/1800MHz for EDGE/GPRS and GSM. The HC25 is configured for worlwide use and offers 3G on 850/1900/2100MHz and EDGE/GPRS/GSM on 850/900/1800/1900MHz.
The HC15 and HC25 modules measure just 34 x 50 x 4.5mm and weigh less than 10g, making them easy to integrate into compact designs. The modules interface to the host application via a USB 2.0 slave interface. USB drivers for Windows XP are included as well as Microsoft RIL/NDIS drivers for Windows Mobile 5 and its successor. Normal operation temperature is between -20 to +65 degrees.
